Vasco Sports Club’s ‘Skechers Performance Goa River Marathon’ (SPGRM) will be held on December 9. This will be the ninth edition of the event and will be organised from the Joggers park in Chicalim. The event will see runners from India and across the world take part in the 10km, 21km and 42km categories. A total prize-money of over Rs 7 lakh will be on offer.
The 5km, walk-run, family and corporate events, which are also organised alongside the marathon, have also gained popularity over the years.
The Skechers Performance Goa River Marathon’s special features include an official recognition by the Association of International Marathons and Distance races (AIMS) and the course distances are marked for accuracy by the international athletics body, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
The SPGRM course is considered amongst the toughest marathon courses in India and showcases Goa’s natural beauty and pristine scenery. Eighty per cent of the course passes along the river Zuari on one side and lush green hills on the other side, allowing marathoners a shaded route for most of the race.
