Goa Velha SC edged past CRC Chinchinim 2-1 to move into the quarterfinals of the 20th Velim Panchayat Cup Football Tournament, organised by the Sports and Welfare Club Zaino at the Velim Church Grounds. Francis opened the scoring for Goa Velha before Om Raikar equalised for Chinchinim. Goa Velha later regained the lead and maintained it until the final whistle. Joseph Rodrigues of Goa Velha was named Man of the Match.

Deadline extended for inter-village card renewals
MARGAO: The Executive Committee of the Goa Football Association (GFA) has decided to extend the deadline for renewing inter-village cards till November 30. All clubs have been asked to ensure that their players renew their yellow inter-village cards within the new deadline. Players who fail to obtain renewed cards will not be allowed to participate in inter-village tournaments with effect from December 1, the GFA stated.

Infant Jesus enter semifinals
MARGAO: Infant Jesus High School, Colva, defeated Our Lady of Health High School, Cuncolim, 2-0 to enter the semifinals of the Under-16 Inter-School Football Tournament organised by the Navelim Villagers Union at the Rosary Ground, Navelim. After a goalless first half, Prince Narne opened the scoring in the 39th minute, while Manglesh Bannikka sealed the victory with a strike in the 49th. Former India international Climax Lawrence presented the Man of the Match award to Prince Narne.

AFC Beach Soccer coaching course underway
MARGAO: The AFC Beach Soccer Certificate Course (Level 1) commenced in Calangute with the objective of producing more qualified and skilled coaches under the aegis of the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The six-day course, which began this week, will conclude on November 4. It is being conducted by AFC instructor Mohd Faizal Bin Md So’od from Malaysia, assisted by Gavin Araujo and Prestly Pereira. Vivek Nagul, Head of Coach Education, is overseeing the programme, with Anthony Lobo as Chief Coordinator and Amar Kuttikar as Assistant Coordinator. The course has drawn 15 participants, including seven Goans — Bruno Coutinho, Jonas Fernandes, Fausto Lobo, Sherwin Lobo, Cedron Rodrigues, Sanford Rodrigues and Marcelino Pereira — along with eight coaches from other states.

Tennis-ball cricket c'ship from Nov 12
PANAJI: As part of its Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Mangirish Vidyadayini Samstha’s VD & SV Wagle High School, Mangeshi, in collaboration with the Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association and the Sports Authority of Goa, will host the 21st Goa State Sub-Junior (U-17) School Tennis Ball Cricket Championship for boys and girls from November 12 to 14. The matches will be played at Mardol and Kunkolim grounds. Players born on or after January 1, 2009 are eligible to participate. Schools must confirm entries by November 6 via WhatsApp at 9822412262 (Laxman Phadte), 9158346526 (Manoj Naik), 9823763110 (Sandeep Pagi), or by email at gtbca123@gmail.com. Entries may also be submitted through zonal coordinators at Canacona, Pernem, Sanquelim, Marcel, and Panaji. Referees’ workshop held ahead of IWL season
MARGAO: The All India Football Federation (AIFF), in collaboration with the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS), conducted a three-day referees’ workshop recently in Mumbai, as part of preparations for the upcoming Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2025-26 season. The workshop, attended by 23 referees, was led by instructors Maria Rebello and Uvena Fernandes, both from Goa. Chaitali Paul, member of the AIFF Referees Committee, served as the observer.
