Goa women suffer third consecutive defeat

Goa’s Under-19 women’s team suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Puducherry in Group ‘A’ of the Under-19 Women’s Elite One-Day Cricket Tournament on Wednesday. Batting first, Goa were bowled out for 187 in 47.1 overs. In reply, Puducherry chased down the target, scoring 188 for the loss of five wickets in 42.2 overs to register the win. The match was played at the Railway Ground in Vadodara. This was Goa’s third consecutive defeat in the tournament.

After winning the toss, Puducherry elected to field first. For Goa, wicketkeeper Shilpa Sharma top-scored with 56 runs, while Usma Khan contributed 45 and Preeti Gaonkar added 40. Goa’s innings came to an end with 17 balls remaining. Haripriya was the pick of the Puducherry bowlers, claiming four wickets.

Chasing the target, Puducherry opener Jaishri starred with an unbeaten century, scoring 111 runs. For Goa, Athashree Shivarkar impressed with the ball, taking three wickets for 40 runs in her 10 overs. Goa’s next match will be against Tamil Nadu on the 19th.
