For a young student to travel from Goa to Australia for her studies and a year later, participate in the national Melbourne powerlifting championship for the first time and then go on to win three gold medals is no easy task.

It has been a dream performance for 19-year-old Archita Sidhant Shirodkar, who is presently studying at the University of Technology in Sydney.

In her first-ever powerlifting championship event after landing here in Australia last year, Archita notched her career-best performance. She won three gold medals on the bench raw, lifting 70 kgs in juniors, and lifting 140 kgs in the raw deadlift and another gold in the equipped bench of 83 kgs.

The daughter of Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Sidhant Shirodkar and Mubeen from the port town of Vasco, Archita has heaped praises on her parents for her success at this championship.

“It’s a great start in my first championship here in Australia. The support from everyone will only help me to move forward in realising the bigger dream of competing at the international level soon”, said Archita.

Making her debut here in Australia, Archita surprised many experts, including the Australian National Coach Robert Wilks, with her performance.

Robert Wilks said Archita has a promising career ahead of her. "With the right support, Archita can be a future star," said Wilks.
