Goa’s squash sensation Yash Fadte gets set for US & British championships
Goan squash player Yash Fadte is full of confidence as he prepares for back-to-back international competitions, to be held in USA and England. The confidence comes from the fact that the 15-year-old Vasco-boy produced the best finish for his age, at the recent WSF World Junior Squash Championships in New Zealand.

The US Junior Squash Championship will be held from December 16-20 at the Yale University, followed by the British Junior Squash Championship, in Birmingham. "It will be a busy year for me. But my goal for the New Year, is to do well in the world juniors to be held in Chennai in July," Yash told The Goan from Mumbai, where he is currently training at the CCI Club. Looking back at the world juniors held in August, Yash believes he has progressed in his game after an encouraging performance for the Indian team. "In the first round, I beat the Pakistani No.1 Abdul Malik 3-1, which was a very big win. I went up to the pre-quarters where I lost to Marwan Tarek, the Egypt No.1. Tarek then ended up winning the world junior championship. Overall, it was a great experience. I was the youngest boy at the age of 15, to finish so far up in the competition," recalled Yash.
SS Dempo College of Commerce came up with a compact display to upset defending champions and national runners-up Rosary College 8-7 via sudden-death in the college-section semi-finals of Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament at Tilak Maidan in Vasco on Wednesday. Both teams were locked 3-3 in regulation time and 6-6 in the tie-breaker. In sudden-death, Dempo held their nerves and prevailed 2-1 for an overall winning score of 8-7.
