Haryana took three vital points from their Group C Ranji Trophy clash against Goa in round 7 of season 2016-17.
On fourth and the final day of the match on Thursday, Goa ended on 152 for 5 in their second innings. They had earlier scored 413 in their first innings and while replying to it, Haryana had posted a mammoth 568 in their first innings; thus taking a 155-run lead.
By the virtue of that lead, Haryana earned three points from the drawn game while Goa had to satisfy themselves with just a solitary point. This way, the gainer from this game were Haryana.
In their second innings, Goa managed 152 for 5 at the close of play. Opener Sumiran Amonkar scored a fine fifty (57) for them, while leg-spinner Amit Mishra -- recently released from the Team India duties for this match -- picked up three wickets to fall.
Mishra had earlier taken 4 for 147 in the first innings, thus ending the match with seven wickets to his name. Still a part of the Indian team for the remaining three Tests against England, Mishra will join the squad ahead of the third Test at Mohali from November 26.
The match was also marked by twin double hundreds. While for Goa, Snehal Kauthankar scored a stroke-filled 225 in the first innings, Haryana’s wicket-keeper batsman Nitin Saini (227) led his team’s fightback in the match. He was well supported by Chaitanya Bishnoi (90) and Sanjay Pahal (58) lower down the order.
