Immaculate Conception Sports Club (ICSC) Paroda beat Panchwadi United Sports Club 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals of All Goa Varca Panchayat Cup inter village football tournament organized by Varca Sports Club at Varca ground, on Sunday.
ICSC seemed to have done their homework as they created many openings and could have taken the lead in the opening session but striker Polly Olveira's rasping shot was blocked by Panchwadi United goalkeeper Jaison D'Costa. At the other end, Panchwadi United struggled to contain the rival forwards and soaked in the pressure to keep the slate clean.
ICSC continued to enjoy lion's share of exchanges and came close to scoring when Highness Fernandes had a crack at the goal but his freekick could just kiss the crossbar, much to the dismay of Paroda supporters.
Crossing over, Immaculate Conception Sports Club continued to attack the rival goal but their forwards misfired from close range. The winner came in the 55th minute when Highness unleashed a snap shot to bulge the net.
