Ho ani Nam - the answer to suspicious wives

Ho ani Nam - the answer to suspicious wives

Comedian Agostinho stars in latest tiatr ‘Hoi ani Nam’,though the title seems a little strange, the story is interesting. Two youngbrides in all their bridal finery are looking forward to their nuptialsceremony. One couple Neil (Salu de Loutolim) and Sia (Jessica) are alreadypresent in the church, whereas the other bride Pinky (Janet) is still awaitingthe arrival of her groom. The groom is delayed. A messenger delivers a letterfor Pinky from the groom. The reason for calling off the marriage is revealed.Pinky is heartbroken but accepts her fate as the will of God.

Neil and Sia are happily married and lead a happy life as ahusband and wife. Pinky incidentally is employed in Neil’s Office as a Peon. All seems well and the marriage of Neil & Sia is a smooth affair. But onefine day the inevitable happens and suspicion creeps in. Neil happens to forgethis cell phone in the office when his wife calls him consistently. Pinky whohas still not left the office notices the mobile and the unanswered calls andthinks it fit to carry the mobile to her boss’ house. Neil is all alone.

But as bad luck would have it, she is delayed as she had toattend a party. Out of dire need she requests Neil if she could change herdress to Party clothes to which he agrees and tells her to go to their bedroomand do the needful. In the meantime Sia returns home and as she enters the house;she sees Pinky coming out from their bedroom. Pinky exchanges complimentarywith Sia, but she is in no mood to accept them. Pinky leaves in a huff. Sia isnot going to have it any more till Neil reveals the truth what Pinky was doingin their bedroom. The earlier incident of the unanswered calls and Pinky’spresence in her bedroom sends the young lady’s thoughts running wild. A happymarriage is heading for a toss. What happens next is the big question mark andthe answers are revealed as you watch ‘Hoi ani Nam’ (Yes and No).

The writer has handled the plot well with a good balancehighlighting the values of married life and how suspicion could lead toseparation. Well scripted dialogues carry with them a sound philosophy onmarried life and pass the desired message. The songs are interesting with 2good solos from Jr. Nelson, Jessica, a trio by Seby de Divar, Salu & Philipand a quaratet by Seby de Divar, Selvy, Philip & Salu. 2 comedy solos fromSelvy are like the icing on the cake. A duet by Philip & Janet also completethe entire complement of songs.

The comedy is for the most part handled by comedian Selvywho is in his element. Jaju Fernandes plays a comedy character role of atypical Goan Hindu ‘Atmaram’. Comedian Agostinho supports them in the comedysequence, and Janet who has this time more of a decent role, also makes herpresence felt to bring the comedy to an appealing finish. Jessica carries herselfwell in the portrayal of the young bride full of revenge and vengeance. PhilipAlmeida is convincing as the young priest. The play has a good ending thatmakes one ponder over the futility of suspicion.

Once when one of his main femaleactors had to answer her exams, I was called upon by Rosario Rodrigues tosubstitute her. I replaced the artist in the main role, but surprisingly, theartist who was supposed to play the role and had stayed away due to her examswas seen seated on the front row enjoying the tiatr holding a book in her hand. What I failed to understand was, if this…
