FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez is optimistic about his team’s upcoming match against Kerala Blasters FC in Kochi, as they look to continue their strong form after the international break. FC Goa secured two back-to-back wins against Bengaluru FC and Punjab FC before the break, and Marquez is eager to maintain that momentum.
Reflecting on the timing of the break, Marquez said, “It’s neither good nor bad. We knew the schedule in advance, and after winning those two important games, we knew the break would be positive for us.” However, he acknowledged that long breaks can disrupt momentum, adding, “We’ve had breaks before, and we know how to handle them. The key is that most of our injured players are now fit and ready for the challenge.”
Injury concerns earlier in the season have eased, with defender Aakash Sangwan now fully recovered and available for the Kerala Blasters match. Marquez also highlighted the importance of squad rotation to maintain freshness and competition for places. “It’s crucial to rotate the squad, especially at the start of the season. Players like Carl McHugh, Borja Herrera, Armando Sadiku and Iker are all ready to step in,” he said.
With five substitutes allowed per match this season, Marquez believes players coming off the bench can have a significant impact. “Those who come on as substitutes often decide the match,” he noted.
With a healthy squad and strong competition for spots, Marquez is confident that FC Goa will be ready to perform well in their upcoming games. “We have a good team, and I believe we will have a strong season,” he concluded.
