I want to score and assist for my team: FCGoa’s midfielder Brison Fernandes

Panaji: FC Goa midfielder Brison Fernandes recently shared his thoughts on his performance and the team’s dynamics in the Indian Super League (ISL) this season. In an interview, Brison expressed satisfaction with his progress so far, stating, “It has been good for me. I want to continue this way—keep my head down, be humble, and just do the hard work.”

As the team prepares to face Mumbai City FC following an international break, Brison noted the positive atmosphere within the squad. “The atmosphere is great. We are ready both mentally and physically. We are set to give 100% on the field,” he said. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and diligence, adding that the team is in a strong position to take on their next challenge.

When discussing his personal development this season, Brison acknowledged the ongoing learning process for himself and his teammates. “Every single day is a learning process, not just for me but for all the players. We keep pushing in every training session,” he explained. However, he also expressed a desire to improve his individual stats, mentioning, “I have not scored this season, and last season I only scored once. I want to score and assist to help my team.”

Coach Manolo Marquez praised Brison’s dedication and effort, highlighting his potential within the team. “I told you at the beginning of the season that every FC Goa player will fight for every ball until the last minute. If we can play good football, we’ll have more chances to win,” he stated.

Marquez also spoke about the importance of young players like Brison in the team’s development. He noted that several young talents are emerging and growing in a setup filled with experienced players. “It’s a process. Everyone recognized the young talents in Hyderabad, but it’s not just me developing them; they are improving every day through training,” Marquez said. He emphasized that humility and hard work are crucial traits for these young athletes.

Reflecting on Brison's journey, Marquez remarked, “Now he’s at the next step. He’s a really good player and is part of the team. He’s almost ready to play regularly.” He pointed out that while FC Goa has a solid structure for player development, young players need to consistently push for their opportunities on the field.

The coach also addressed the broader context of youth development in football, explaining that maturity among players doesn’t strictly correlate with age. “The maturity of players is not defined by age categories like under-21 or under-23. Some players mature at 17, while others may never mature,” he said, emphasizing that development takes time and patience.
