More than 2,000 triathletes from 30 countries will compete in the sixth edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Goa, scheduled to be held at Miramar on November 1.
The official finisher’s jersey and medal were unveiled at a press conference at Fortune Miramar on Thursday. Inspired by Goa’s traditional tiles, the designs reflect the athletes’ journey and their achievements.
The event will feature a 1.9-km swim, a 90-km cycling leg and a 21.1-km run. This year’s event T-shirt will carry a special logo marking 150 years of Vande Mataram, while 150 Goan participants, supported by the Department of Tourism, will take part. A choir will perform at the start of the swim to mark the anniversary.
Deepak Raj, country head of IRONMAN India and race director, said participation had grown from around 1,000 in the initial edition to more than 2,000 this year. He credited the state government, Goa Tourism, police and other departments for their support.
Jeremy Kann, head of global partnerships at IRONMAN, said the event would bring economic benefits and promote sports tourism, while encouraging more Indians to take up the sport.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said the event promoted endurance, discipline and fitness while bringing athletes, families and spectators to Goa.
The event is organised by Yoska in collaboration with the Goa government and IRONMAN, and presented by Herbalife.
