Former India cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar in all probability will take on the mantle of coaching Goa's senior Ranji team after the GCA managing committee meeting on Friday listed him as a top contender for the high-profile job. Former India wicketkeeper is also in contention to assist the GCA as their U-19 coach. The duo is likely to be in Goa next week to hold discussions with GCA top brass.
The GCA which held its first managing committee meeting, post elections today at Porvorim also resolved to amend its constitution as reported by earlier. Among other decisions taken, the GCA will hold its annual prize distribution function on August 14 after a two-year gap. Plans are afoot to invite India's ODI skipper MS Dhoni or star batsman Rohit Sharma as chief guest for the function. The legendary Kapil Dev may also be extended an invitation. The annual function will also witness the GCA distributing Rs 3 lakh as grants for affiliated clubs.
Meanwhile, Veena Phadte from Mayem has been named Jt-secretary of the GCA's women's committee while former player Prashant Kakode will be GCA's cricketing administrator. Hemant Angle and Namdev Phadte are likely to be named his assistants. Adv Abhijit Kamat has been named GCA's legal advisor.
