MARGAO: Maina Sports Club registered a solitary goal win against Dando Boys Benaulim to enter the semifinals of the 23rd Benaulim Villagers cup inter-village football tournament, organised by Dando Boys Club of Benaulim, at St. John the Baptista football ground, on Wednesday.
Mario Mascarenhas of Maina should have netted in the fourth minute but Dando Boys Benaulim goalkeeper was equal to the task. Dando Boys' Sanford Rodrigues' long range shot failed to pop up into the Maina SC net in the 19th minute.
Maina SC coach Angelius Rebello gave extra task to Milagres Fernandes to control the midfield as well as the frontline in the second half, the plan worked with Milagres Fernandes netting the match winner with a placement shot in the 45th minutes. The Dando Boys strikers tried their best to score but the defence line of Maina SC guarded their fortress till the end of the match.
