FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez is confident as his team prepares for a crucial match against Punjab FC at Fatorda Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Both teams come into the match in strong form, with FC Goa fresh off a 3-0 win over Bengaluru FC, while Punjab FC has won five of their last six matches.
Marquez, who is known for promoting young talent, spoke about the importance of integrating younger players into the squad. He highlighted the performances of players like Bryson and Ayush, saying, “At FC Goa, we are using them effectively, and they are doing well.” Marquez, who had a similar approach with Hyderabad FC, believes in giving young players the chance to shine in important games.
Looking ahead to the match against Punjab FC, Marquez acknowledged the challenge posed by their opponents. “It will be very difficult,” he said, “but I believe in our players. Punjab FC may not have top players, but they know exactly what they want to do.” He also praised Punjab's overall organization, adding that the only game they lost this season, against Bengaluru FC, was one they didn’t deserve to lose.
On tactical changes, Marquez mentioned that while he may make some adjustments to the lineup, he intends to rotate players to ensure no one is overworked early in the season. “It’s important to rotate players,” he explained. “Everyone in the squad is important.”
With a win, FC Goa could move into third place on the table. Marquez stressed the need for focus, saying, “We can’t take anything for granted. Every game is a new challenge.” He also raised concerns about the uneven scheduling of ISL matches but remains confident in his team’s ability to perform consistently.
