MARGAO
Margao SC booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup 2025 with a narrow 1–0 win over CAC Cansaulim in a tightly contested pre-quarterfinal clash held at the Fr. Druston and Wellington Ground, Cavelossim. The tournament is being organized by the Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim.
Cansaulim started strong and nearly took the lead after being awarded an indirect free kick inside the penalty box. However, Slevin de Mello’s effort was blocked by Margao defender Elroy Barreto, resulting in a corner. Barreto then turned creator, delivering a pinpoint cross to an unmarked Hanslam Furtado, whose header went just wide of the post.
Against the run of play, Margao found the breakthrough when Clencio Pinto latched onto a through ball from Alfred Noronha and fired a low shot into the right corner of the net—scoring what would be the match-winning goal.
CAC Cansaulim had another chance to level the scores in the second half after a handball by Valito inside the box. Aron Fernandes stepped up to take the penalty, but Margao goalkeeper Glen Fernandes made a comfortable save to preserve the lead.
Despite Cansaulim pushing forward in search of an equaliser, the Margao defense held firm to seal the victory.
Aswin Fernandes of CAC Cansaulim was awarded the Food Court Man of the Match by Sports Secretary Peter Cardozo, in the presence of Joint Sports Secretary Glenn Gracias.
