A brilliant hat-trick by Meuton Fernandes helped Fr Angel Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Verna to register a thumping 6-2 win over Chitkara International School, Chandigarh in the Under-17 Suborto Mukerjee Boys international football tournament played at Dr Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi on Sunday.
Fr Agnel started the game in attacking fashion and Meuton beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish in the 20th minute, off a well measured pass from Brison. However their joy was short-lived as Chitkara striker beat the offside trap and placed the ball to the far corner of the net to make it 1-1.
Stunned by the equaliser, Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary went into the attacking mode and in-form striker Meuton, who was way into the rival penalty box, was brought down by rival defender and the referee awarded the Goans a penalty. Meuton himself took spot kick and sent the rival goalkeeper the wrong way for his second goal. The lead helped Fr Agnel mount good pressure on the rival citadel and Meuton again outwitted a couple of defenders and punted the ball to the far corner of the net to register his hat-trick a minute before the break.
Post resumption, Fr Agnel continued to enjoy the lion's share of exchanges and put pressure on the rivals. They gained a flag kick which Stalen Lucas sent directly into the goal to give Fr Agnel a 4-1 lead. The Goan team kept on dominating and won a freekick at top of the box from which Brison scored a goal with a brilliant shot.
While Fr Agnel were still celebrating, Chitkara took advantage and slotted home their second goal. A minute later as substitute Clasho received a brilliant pass from Brison and with a beautiful turn of his body sent in an angular shot which beat the goalkeeper and put the match beyond Chitkara's reach.
Fr Agnel will now play Kendriya Vidyalaya (MP) in a crucial match.
