Sporting Clube de Goa defeated Panjim Footballers 2-0 in the GFA Goa Professional League at Nagoa Panchayat Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Panjim Footballers held the upper hand during the first 10 minutes as Nicklas Noronha wasted chances. At the other end, Sporting Clube had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards misfired from close range. At the stroke of half-time, Sporting broke the deadlock when Rohan Rodrigues beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish in the 9th minute.
Sporting were gifted a goal when rival goalkeeper Preston Rego fumbled with a goal-kick and the defenders were caught on the wrong foot in the 45th minute and a lurking captain Llyod Cardozo beat the goalkeeper with a rasping drive.
The second half belonged to Sporting as the Panjim Footballers failed to find any rhythm. Sporting had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards misfired from close range. Earlier, Cliffton Rebello of Panjim Footballers hit the post much to the dismay of the team's bench.
Churchill Bros hold FC Goa
Churchill Brothers and FC Goa played out a 1-1 draw in the Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.
By virtue of this result, Churchill Brothers moved to third position with 13 points from seven games, while FC Goa dropped to sixth position with 11 points after similar outings.
Churchill Brothers took an early lead in the eighth minute when a long ball from Meldon Silva from nearly the halfway mark found Lalkhawpuimawia at the edge of the box, and his perfect header beat the onrushing keeper as the ball rolled into the net to give the Red Machines an early lead.
FC Goa scored in the 45th minute through Vasim Inamdar after Jovial Dias made the spadework. Jovial, on receiving a pass at the edge of the box, drew the keeper towards him and then played a square pass to Vasim, who placed the ball into the net to make it 1-1.
