MARGAO: Parish Youth Nuvem prevailed over Curtorim Gymkhana in a nail-biting match that ended 6-5 on penalties, securing their place in the quarter-finals of the 23rd Bro Eulalio Vas Memorial football tournament held at Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, on Wednesday.
The match began with excitement as Max Colaco put Parish Youth Nuvem ahead with a goal in the 15th minute. However, their celebration was short-lived, as Curtorim Gymkhana responded almost immediately. Aliston Fernandes found the equaliser just a minute later, thanks to a precise assist from Milagres Fernandes, leaving the score at 1-1 as both teams headed into the halftime break.
In the second half, both teams fought hard to gain the upper hand. They focused on controlling the pace of the game, each side searching for the decisive goal. Despite their efforts, neither team could break the deadlock, and referee Santan Furtado signaled the end of regular time with the score still tied.
The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where Parish Youth Nuvem demonstrated remarkable composure. Niclau Colaco, Godfrey Mascarenhas, Hudson Dias, Meisleio Barreto, and Cedor Colaco all converted their penalties successfully. Curtorim Gymkhana also put up a strong fight, with Gilbert Fernandes, Floyd Antao, Frazer Fernandes, and Aliston Fernandes finding the net, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory.
Aliston Fernandes was named Man of the Match by Ravi Natekar for his standout performance.
