Reuben Colaco (elo 1440) continued his dream run as he secured a silver medal in the U-11 category at the 7th National School Chess Championship that concluded on February 1 at Bhubaneshwar, Odisha.
Out of the total nine rounds played, Reuben secured 7.5 points, securing seven wins and one draw. This tournament helped Reuben, who is a student of Loyola High School, Margao, increase his rating by 120 elo points.
He defeated higher rated players like second seeded Mohanty Soyamshree (elo1702) from Odisha, Sreekar J S S (elo 1599) of Telengana and Mahendra Teja Mekela (elo 1569) of Andra Pradesh. Sahel Det of Assam won the title with eight points while Harsh Suresh of Tamil Nadu came third with
seven points.
Meanwhile, Goa’s Tanvi Hadkonkar had to settle for fourth position in the girls U-13 category. Tanvi finished on 6.5 points and missed the third place on tie-break. Ayantika Das won the title with seven points while Women FIDE Master (WFM) Dhyana Patel bagged second place with 6.5 points and Meenatchi Rajam V secured third place with
6.5 points.
