Risers off to a winning start; 18 Juners register second consecutive victory

Risers and 18 Juners registered victories in their respective matches of the Advocates Cricket League (ACL) on Monday at the Chicalim ground in Vasco. While it was the opening match of the season for Risers, 18 Juners recorded their second successive win.

In the first match of the day, Risers defeated Legal Titans by five wickets. Batting first, Legal Titans posted 124 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Risers chased down the target with 125 runs for the loss of five wickets in 17.1 overs. Opener Kalpesh Kamat starred for Risers with a fluent 42 off 30 balls, which included six boundaries and a six.

The second match turned out to be a closely fought contest. Lawyer Challengers, batting first, scored 165 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. In response, 18 Juners reached the target in the final over, scoring 168 for five in 19.5 overs. Opener Nikhil Ganpule anchored the chase with a well-crafted 53 off 48 balls to guide his team to victory.

Earlier, on Sunday, 18 Juners and United Brothers registering victories in their respective opening matches.

In the first encounter, 18 Juners defeated Lotlikar Lions by 15 runs. Kashinath Posnaik was adjudged Man of the Match for his all-round performance, scoring 14 runs and picking up three wickets for 25 runs.

In the second match, United Brothers edged past Lawyer Challengers by three wickets. United Brothers’ Dattaraj Parab was named Man of the Match after a brilliant unbeaten knock of 73 runs off 49 balls, which included eight fours and a six.

Advocates Cricket League president Adv. Iftikhar Agha briefed the gathering about the tournament. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the chief guest, Irshad Agha, Principal District and Sessions Judge, North Goa. Civil Judge (Junior Division), JMFC Margao, Adv. Sabino Braganza, attended as the guest of honour. Also present were Adv. S. N. Joshi, Adv. Gajanan Korgaonkar, SAG officer Prajyot Chodankar, senior advocate Saresh Lotlikar, among others.
