In a tightly contested match between Guardian Angel SC and Rossman Cruz Nagoa, Rossman Cruz emerged victorious with a 1-0 scoreline. They entered the semifinals of the inter-village football tournament organised by St Sebastian UC Benaulim and played at Dando ground Benaulim.
Guardian Angels faced early misfortune as they conceded an own goal by Kenneth Perdra in the 2nd minute. Despite their efforts to level the score in the first half, they couldn't find the back of the net.
The second half witnessed Rossman Cruz’s relentless attack to solidify their lead. During the final 10 minutes, Guardian Angel displayed determined attacking play, but Rossman’s resilient defenders thwarted their attempts. Rossman Cruz’s defensive prowess, especially in the crucial closing moments, played a pivotal role in preserving their slim lead and sealing their semifinal berth.
Delton powers SC Davorlim into quarters
SC Davorlim defeated St Anthony SC Assolda 3-1 to move into the quarterfinals of the 29th Mandopa Cup at Mandopa ground on Wednesday.
Delton Colaco had an outstanding performance, showcasing his power-packed shots and providing many assists to his teammates. Despite the loss, Bribon Dias of St Anthony SC Assolda gave it his all in the match. Davorlim's Velroy Colaco missed two opportunities to score in the 6th and 19th minutes.
On the other hand, Wildon Fernandes from Assolda shot wide in the 23rd minute. Davorlim netted the first goal through Delton Colaco, who scored with a placement shot in the 47th minute. Davorlim further inflated the lead through Delton in the 59th minute.
Brivon Dias reduced the margin for Assolda after dribbling past a couple of Davorlim defenders and shooting from close range in the 56th minute. Delton Colaco netted the third goal with a placement shot in the 62nd minute, 3-1.
Cumborda move into finals
Cumborda advanced to the finals by defeating Damdolem 3-2 in the 1st Vicente Memorial Interward Football Tournament at St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim on Wednesday.
Nelson Cardozo scored the first goal for Damdolem in the 15th minute. Valzino Fernandes soon scored the equaliser in the 20th minute, ending the first half with a score of 1-1. In the second half, Cumborda scored their second goal through Blasson Fernandes in the 40th minute, making it 2-1.
Veron Fernandes scored the third goal for Cumborda in the 45th minute, 3-1. Damdolem scored their second goal through Ryan Fernandes in the 50th minute to reduce the margin.
Don Bosco Oratory reach last-four
Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda defeated Goa Velha SC 4-1 to reach the semifinals of the Festival Cup 2023 organized by Betalbatim Sporting Club at Betalbatim Panchayat Ground on Wednesday.
Fr Mario Noronha of Fatorda was the star of the match with his dribbling and many assists to his teammates. Weldley Barretto of Don Bosco netted the first goal in the 25th minute, and then Reshabh Karapurkar netted a brace for Fatorda in the 56th and 59th minutes respectively, with assists from Fr Mario Noronha. Michael Dias netted the fourth for Don Bosco in the 67th minute, followed by a penalty goal from Joseph Rodrigues of Goa Velha in the 60th minute.
Boys of Carvota, Devotee Sporting in finals
Boys of Carvota defeated FC Strikers Maddant 2-0 to advance to the final of the 23rd SWYAL Cup at Saviour of the World Church ground, Loutolim.
Delwin and George each scored a goal for Carvota. George was named Man of the Match. In the second semifinal, Devotee Sporting Club narrowly beat Born to Win Vanxem 1-0 thanks to a beautiful free-kick from Valoncio Gomes. Valoncio Gomes was named Man of the Match. Devotee Sporting Club will now face Carvota in the final, which will be held on August 15, at the Loutulim Church ground.
