Bengaluru FC and Alvaro Rubio are set to part ways as the latter’s four month contract comes to an end.

The 37-year-old, who served as Real Valladolid captain until last season, is expected to take a call on his future in the coming days as to whether he wishes to hang up his boots or play in the lower divisions of Spain, football website Goal has reported.

Rubio played a total of 443 minutes for Bengaluru FC in the AFC Cup and played a massive role in their twin victories over Singapore and Malaysia champions, namely Tampines Rovers and Johor Darul Ta’zim. It is believed that the club might want to rope in a foreign striker ahead of the I-League in order to shore up their attack.

According to sources, Rubio, who is known to set-up and break-up play and start counter-attacks from deep within his own half, moved out of Spain for the very first time in his career in order to experience playing in a continental competition in Asia, namely the AFC Cup.
