Goa's Saheel Khatib Sharma won a gold medal at the ICN bodybuilding completion in Mumbai.
The 25-year-old from Chicalim won the title in the men's fitness model category at the ICN ( I Compete Natural) bodybuilding championship organised by Australian federation in one of the biggest natural bodybuilding shows.
Saheel participated in three categories amid tough competition from around 400 contestants. He finished third in the men's classic physique category and fifth in the men's physique category.
"I was into bodybuilding for many years but I never got to compete because I did not want to use drugs and there were no natural bodybuilding competitions happening around. Last year in November, I got to know about ICN and I decided to compete but I did not fare well. I felt disheartened but I did not want to settle and decided to compete again after my parents and friends encouraged me. This time I won a gold and a bronze medal, besides a 5th place in one category. I am happy that I could do it this time and bring laurels to the State," said Sharma.
"In a few months, I want to compete again in other competitions coming up. I have even coached other people who also did well in the competition and our team won nine medals in Mumbai."
