DULER
Salgaocar Football Club had an easy outing as they drubbed Calangute Association Sports Club by a 5-0 margin in the Goa Professional League, in a match played at Duler stadium, here on Saturday.
The Green Brigade dominated right from the start and kept their opponents pinned inside their own territory. For the Salgaocar colts, Ribhav Sardessai (2 goals), Mackroy Peixoto and Godfrey Mascarenhas scored in the first session, while Rollwin Almeida pumped in the fifth goal in the second half.
After some minutes of probing, Salgaocar went ahead in the 11th minute after Devendra Murgaonkar combined with Rollwin Almeida as the latter sent a square pass to a well positioned Ribhav Sardessai, who coolly tapped the ball into the Calangute goal, 1-0. Hardly had the cheers died down, the Green Brigade extended their lead in the very next minute. A misunderstanding between the defenders was intercepted by Mackroy who slammed the ball into the nets, 2-0.
As the match progressed, the Green Brigade continued on their domination and in the 24th minute, Godfrey Mascarenhas sent a long ball from the centre to Ronaldo, who unselfishly passed the ball to Ribhav, who finished it with a gentle tap, 3-0. The Calangute lads had just one good attempt at the rival goal in the 37th minute where skipper Nicolau Colaco sent a floater to Sachinanand, who dribbled past a couple of Salgaocar defenders and the advancing keeper, and sent the ball to Mohammad Shahsad, who to his team’s dismay failed to tap the ball into the unguarded goal. In the 45th minute, the Greens hammered in their fourth goal before the breather. A corner by Sanson Pereira was guided into the goal by Godfrey to make it 4-0.
In the very second minute after the half time, Godfrey found Rollwin inside the penalty box and he beat the onrushing Calangute keeper Savio Paes to score with a neat placement, 5-0. The Green Brigade slowed down the tempo of the match for the next 30 minutes. In the 80th minute, substitute Stephen Satarkar found himself just outside the 6-yard box and he tried to beat the Calangute keeper with a placement, but keeper Savio brought off an excellent full stretched diving save.
In the added-on time, Calangute’s Rup Das, who had come on from the bench, moved from the right flank and sent a crisp cross at the goal but Salgaocar keeper Nora Fernandes collected the ball without any alarm.
