A first half strike by Liston Colaco helped Salgaocar FC overcome Pune FC 1-0 in a Group B match of Under 18 I-League in Kolkata on Friday .
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. The lone goal of the match came in the very 7th minute when in-form striker Liston Colaco, who picked up the ball from Aldrich Coelho beat the Pune goalkeeper Anuj Kumar hands down. Spurred by the early success, Salgaocar went into attacking mode and nearly doubled the lead but Pune FC goalkeeper Anuj Kumar came to his rescue to thwart Liston Coalco's rasping volley off a cross from Ruflon Fernandes.
Down by the early reversal, Pune upped their ante and launched a barrage of attacks with strikers Ashique and Dimple Bhagat swarming into the rival penalty area. However, the Salgaocar rearguard was alert in frustrating the rival attacks. The second half belonged to Pune, who made many threatening attacks but to no avail as the Greens defence stood strong in the form of Saurbh Patil, Sanson Pereira and Daniel Gomes.
Salgaocar goalkeeper Mustafa Mousa Shaikh was able to pull off some fine stops as on one such occasion he denied Chesterpaul Lyngdoh when the latter came dangerously close to equalising for his team.
The exciting game which had the fans on the edge of their seats came to an end with the Salgaocar FC juniors extending their undefeated run to remain at the top of the table.
