Holders Salgaocar Veterans ousted Marc Caterers Veterans Nuvem 8-7 via the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of the 16th V M Salgaocar Memorial Veterans Soccer, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando, Benaulim on Sunday.
Salgaocar had the first opportunity in the 17th minute but Seby Vaz headed over the cross piece. Nuvem also got a chance to score but striker Brian Diniz's shot was saved by former Sesa Goa Virender singh in the Salgaocar goal.
After resumption, Nuvem got a stranglehold in the match and almost secured the crucial goal but captain Marcus Carvalho, after dribbling past rival defender Anthony Mathos, struck the upright with a right footer.
In the marathon the breaker which decided the winner, Salgaocar scored through Mario Soares, Alfred Fernandes, Atul Naik, Mahesh Lotlikar, Inacio Viegas, Steve Furtado, Virender Singh and Baptista D'Mello while Brian Diniz, Caetano Fernandes, Luis Cardozo, Johnson Abranches, Seby Furtado, Milagres Fernandes and Remedious Fernandes netted for Marc Caterers, Nuvem.
Earlier, noted Konkani music producer Seby Pinto from Benaulim, who was the chief guest, was introduced to the teams by club members Jerome Fernandes and Jackson Rebello.
