Sao Jose de Areal clinched the 44th Gold Silver Rolling Trophy Football Tournament with a dramatic 8“6 victory over hosts Navelim Sporting Club via a tiebreaker in the finals played at Rosary Church Ground, Navelim on Thursday.
For Navelim SC, Travis Souza netted a brace while Noah Luis added the third. Sao Jose de Areal's goals came from Dyral Costa, who also struck twice, and Joston Fernandes.
The match was eventually decided in a tense penalty shootout, where Sao Jose de Areal proved more clinical from the spot.
The champions took home a cash prize of ₹70,000, while runners-up Navelim SC received ₹50,000.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Luizinho Faleiro, former Chief Minister of Goa, as chief guest. Other dignitaries included MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Coutinho (Parish Priest, Rosary Church), MLA Avertano Furtado, Edwin (Cipru) Cardozo, Paul Pereira (Sarpanch, VP Navelim), and members of the GEA Executive Committee (South) including Anthony Pango, Cosme Oliver, Andrew Ferrao, Subert Furtado, Constancio Paul Rodrigues, Anthony Leo Fernandes, and Ravi Cabral.
