Sporting Club of Davorlim rallied from behind to defeat Curtorim Gymkhana 3-1 and entered the quarterfinals of All Goa Cana Benaulim Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Cana Benaulim Sporting Association at St John the Baptist, Dando Grounds, Benaulim on Monday. There was no score at half time.
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes despite soggy condition of the ground. Both had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards muffed gilt- edged chances. Post resumption, both the teams showed urgency and as a result there were many thrills at opposite end.
Curtorim slowly took over and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Curtorim Gymkhana broke the deadlock soon after resumption when Mario Mascarenhas beat the rival goalkeeper in the melee.
Unfazed, Sporting Club of Davorlim upped the ante and unleashed a barrage of attacks and their efforts bore fruit when Piedade Colaco headed home off a well measured cross from Paxton Gomes to cancel the lead.
The equaliser boosted the morale of Davorlim players as they mounted tremendous pressure on the rival goal and midway in the second half, Bonnie Niasso made it 2-1 in favour of Sporting Club of Davorlim after he was fed by Agnelo Colaco.
With time running out, Sporting Club of Davorlim put the issue beyond doubt when Paxton Gomes beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish.
