Sokoilo Santarxette won the 5-a-side Somudai-wise ‘Jubilee Cup’ organised by the Parish Pastoral Council as part of the 425th year jubilee celebration of the St Thomas Church, Aldona.
The tournament began with a prayer service led by Deacon Melito D’Costa. Teachers Agnelo Rodrigues of St Michael’s Convent High School, Vagator and Pratap Volvoikar of St Thomas Boys High School, Aldona graced the occasion as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. Parish Vicar Fr Tomas Lobo addressed the gathering with his words of wisdom and motivation.
Nineteen somudais participated in the event with each team comprising of a married man, married woman, youth boy, youth girl and an altar girl/altar boy. Sokoilo Santarxette finished first ahead of second-placed Khoirut and third-placed Carona Warriors.
Shannon Rodrigues was the youngest top scorer of the tournament which was officiated by referees Marshall D’Melo and Johnny Pinto. An exhibition match was held between St Philip and James Church, Cortalim led by Asst Parish Priest Fr Aidan Fernandes and St Thomas Church which the former won by a 1-0 margin. The event was made a reality with the hard work put in by the sub-committee for events and entertainment of the 425 years jubilee celebration, consisting of Ronald Victoria, Mathson Miranda and Jovi D’Souza. The vote of thanks was proposed by Jovi D’Souza while Angel Fernandes and Jerusha Moniz were the anchors for the event.
