MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council recently hosted a spirited tennis ball cricket tournament at the Rajendra Prasad Stadium, drawing participation from 14 teams representing municipal councils, government departments, and a team of Margao journalists.
In an electrifying final match, the South Goa District Hospital team emerged champions, defeating the South Goa Fire Department by 21 runs to lift the trophy. The high-octane final featured a three-over-per-side format, unlike the four-over format used in earlier knockout and semi-final rounds.
Batting first, the District Hospital team set a daunting target of 64 runs in three overs. In response, the Fire Department managed 43 runs, falling short despite a valiant effort.
The prize ceremony was graced by a host of dignitaries, including Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Margao Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar, Chief Officer Melvin Vaz, Goa Municipal Employees Association Secretary Anil Shirodkar, and Tarun Bharat’s Margao correspondent Prasad Nagvekar. Councilors Raju Naik, Mahesh Amonkar, Lata Pednekar, Sunita Paradkar, and others were also in attendance to present awards.
Earlier, the inaugural ceremony saw prominent figures such as Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuyekar, Madgaon Vice Chairperson Babita Naik, Haj Committee Chairman Urfan Mulla, Vasco Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik, Margao Cricket Club President Yogesh Nayak, Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr. Rajendra Borkar, social activist Yogiraj Kamat, MMC Municipal Engineer Deepak Faldesai, and several chairpersons and councilors from various municipalities.
