Sporting Clube de Goa have appointed Dipankur Sharma as their new head coach, with the AFC ‘A’ License holder joining the club after more than a decade of coaching experience across various levels of Indian football.
Sharma, who was born in Goa and spent part of his early years in the State, takes charge as Sporting look to build on their Goa Pro League 2025-26 title and make further progress in I-League 2.
“We are delighted to welcome Dipankur Sharma to Sporting Clube de Goa,” said Nathan Vaz, Director of Sporting Clube de Goa, describing him as a coach with “a strong work ethic” and “a clear football philosophy”. Vaz said Sharma’s experience across different levels of the game and his approach to developing talented players aligned with the club’s vision.
Sharma was most recently head coach of Chanmari FC in Aizawl, Mizoram. During an earlier stint with the club, he guided Chanmari to promotion from I-League 2 to the I-League after a three-week pre-season.
Before returning to Chanmari FC, Sharma worked with Diamond Harbour FC in Kolkata, where he led the reserve side to a runner-up finish in the Calcutta Football League while assisting the first team.
“Sporting Clube de Goa is a club built on a rich history and a football culture to be proud of. To be given the opportunity to lead a club of this stature is a privilege, but also a responsibility I am determined to repay with hard work, ambition and results,” said Sharma.
Sharma graduated in law with a BBA LLB from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, and also has a degree in Business Administration. His coaching career also includes a stint with Kodagu FC in Bengaluru, where he coached in the BDFA Super Division, and Corbett FC, whom he guided during the 2022-23 I-League 2 season.
Sharma also worked as head coach of the U16 squad at the Reliance Foundation Elite Youth Scheme, where he focused on player development. He later served as head coach at FutAcademy in Mexico City, where he worked on game-based training methods and started ‘Covid Tactics’, an initiative focused on the tactical aspects of football.
“Goa has always had a special connection with the beautiful game. Sporting Clube de Goa is a club with a proud history and a strong identity, and there is a lot of talent here. My goal is to help these players believe in themselves, develop their game and compete at the highest level,” Sharma said.
“We want to develop a clear style of play that the people of Goa will enjoy watching, while maintaining the consistency and competitiveness needed to achieve results on the pitch,” the coach added.
