Sports Minister Govind Gaude conducted a surprise inspection of two city hotels on late Sunday where athletes from different States participating in the ongoing National Games are staying.

Complaints of chapatis not being served hot at one hotel and small size of beds in another hotel were brought to the notice of the minister, who immediately directed the management to ensure that the athletes and officials are provided with the best of facilities.

After a girl athlete drew the attention of the minister that the chapatis served were cold, Gaude inquired with the management, only to be told that the chapatis were being outsourced from outside. The minister requested the management to get the suppliers to ensure that they provide warm chapatis to the athletes and officials.

As the minister made his presence felt at another hotel, he came across a complaint that the bed size was too small to accommodate the female athletes. An athlete was heard asking the minister to either accommodate her in another room or get a large-size mattress so that she could sleep on the floor.

After the interaction, Gaude informed that he paid a visit to the hotels housing the lawn tennis players from the States of Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka and other places to find out their grievances or difficulties, if any. “They had some genuine issues, which I have directed the hotel managements to address promptly. I have told the athletes that they need not worry about the nutrition, saying they are even free to take breakfast at the venue of the Games,” he said.

“I have found that the food supplies is of good quality. They had some issues, which will be resolved on priority,” he said, adding that the government will see that the athletes and the officials get the best of treatment.
