St Anthony enter Curtorim Villagers Cup quarterfinals

St Anthony Assolda's Richard Fernandes receives the Man of the Match prize.

St Anthony Sports Club Assolda moved into the quaterfinals after defeating Dicarpale SC 2-1 in the Curtorim Villagers Cup 2023 at Curtorim ground on Monday.

Assolda scored the first goal through Richard Fernandes in the 22nd minute. In the second half, Dicarpale SC equalised through Milton Colaco who scored in the 39th minute from a penalty kick, 1-1. St Anthony Assolda scored the match-winner through Velintino Carvalho in the 56th to make it 2-1.

St Anthony Assolda's Richard Fernandes was awarded the Man of the Match prize at the hands of Roy Colaco (former Curtorim Gymkhana and Dempo SC player). For the inaugural match, ex-sarpanch of VP Curtorim, Rui Menezes was the chief guest.

TNS PG Open tennis tournament begins
One hundred and forty tennis players across various age categories will clash at the TNS PG tennis tournament, which got underway at the Panjim Gymkhana on Monday.

The state-ranking tournament will see matches spread across all the 11 categories at the Gymkhana’s courts and the tennis facility at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias in the State capital. In the series of matches which were held on the inaugural day in the veteran 45+ years singles category, Manoj Pandey beat Kedar Tari (6-0), Dimitry Smirnov beat Laxman Iyer (6-3), Rajnish Dhall beat Rajesh Bundela (6-2), Kishor Metry beat Bhaskar Suryanarayan (6-1), Sameer Kakodkar beat Mackinlay Barretto (6-0), Anupam Saksena beat Nitesh Nerulkar (6-1) while Prasad Fadte beat Michael Viegas (6-1).

IM Ameya wins best game award in Indore
International Master Ameya Audi won the Best Game Award apart from a podium finish at the just-concluded 1st Mayors Trophy Indore International Grand Master Chess Tournament in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

Ameya, the 23rd seed, beat GM Dzhumaev Marat, IM Neelash Saha, IM Anup Deshmukh and drew with GM Stupak Krill and GM Deepan Chakkravathy J to register six wins and two draws to tally 7 points out of 10 rounds. Ameya won the best game award for his round 6 game against GM Marat.

Hockey orientation course on April 11, 12
Goan Hockey in association with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and Hockey India will conduct an orientation course on hockey rules and regulations on April 11 and 12 at SAG Indoor Stadium, Fatorda and Peddem Sports Complex for players and physical education teachers. International umpires Claudius de Sales and Raghuprasad RV are the resource persons for the course.
