St Anthony win Bardez hockey

St Anthony High School, Duler blew away the challenge from Holy Cross High School, Bastora with a 9-0 win to claim the Bardez taluka title of Junior Nehru hockey tournament for under-17 girls played at Peddem sports complex.

The match was totally dominated by the Duler girls. Riya Salgaonkar scored three, Veena Naik scored and Nikita Naik scored two goals each, while Pallavi Jha and Seema Navalgund scored a goal each for the Duler School.
Assagao Union High School, Assagao won the third place playoff match. Technical officials Aviraj Madgaonkar, Ayyaz Khan and Gaurav Singh officiated in the final under the guidance of senior coach Alexander Remedious from Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Altogether nine teams -- six schools and three higher secondary schools from Bardez taluka -- participated in the tournament which commenced on September 6. St Anthony High School, Duler have now qualified to play the District level final which will be held on September 12 at 3 pm. They will play the winners of Tiswadi taluka at the same venue.

UC Fatorda stun Bardez Veterans

United Club Fatorda Veterans overcame Bardez Veterans 1-0 to storm into the finals of the 17th VM Salgaocar Memorial Veterans Soccer tournament organised by Prime Sports Club, Benaulim at St John the Baptist ground, Danddo, Benaulim on Saturday.
