St Anthony's Colva edge Fr Agnel Paroda, in semis

St Anthony's Sports Club, Colva edged past Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club, Paroda 5-3 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-finals of All Goa Rachol Overseas Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Raitura Sports Club at Panchayat Grounds, Raia on Thursday.

In an evenly contested match, Fr Agnel Youth Sports Club sounded warning in the early moments of the game when winger Kanchan Khiro's power packed shot was well thwarted by rival defender Maxon Fernandes. After a minior hiccup, St Anthony's regrouped quickly and striker Roger Lourenco picked up the ball from Joel Rodrigues and the former's try was well blocked by Paroda goalkeeper Olden Fernandes. St Anthony's Sports Club made inroads into the rival territory and striker Roger Lourenco was the culprit as he muffed gilt-edged chances in the 12th minute. At the other end, Paroda team did not lag behind as striker Manush Olveira's rasping shot was well saved by the Colva goalkeeper.

Post resumption, both the teams showed attacking intent as Fr Agnel's winger Kanchan Khiro menancinlgy rushed into the rival penalty box but his snap shot kissed the horizontal bar much to the dismay of Paroda supporters. Fr Agnel's breakthrough came in the 46th minute when Benzo Clemente unleashed a snap shot that crashed into the net. However, their joy was short lived and in the 46th minute, Candido Vaz neutralized the lead with a stiff grounder in the 49th minute to put his team on equal terms.

In the resultant tie-breaker, Maxon Fernandes, Clifton Fernandes, Jerry Fernandes and Herculano Crasto netted for St Anthony's,Colva while Manish Oliveira and Marcus D'Silva found the mark for Fr Agnel YC. Paroda.
