St Xavier’s High School, Velim prevailed over Infant Jesus High School, Colva 3-2 via tiebreaker to win the 3rd All Goa OLHESA inter school football tournament organised by Our Lady of Health Ex Students Association in association with Our Lady of Health High School, Cuncolim at Government Village School ground, Cuncolim on Sunday.
The teams displayed an attacking brand of soccer and had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards failed to beat the rival goalkeeper. The same trend continued in the second half as both sides showed the urgency and went all out in search of the elusive match winner. However defenders on each side stood tall in protecting their citadel
In the penalty shootout, Avon Pinto, Shane Cardozo and Kiran Hattikar scored for St Xavier HS while Amarkumar Thakur and Riston Gomes were on target for Infant Jesus HS. St Xavier’s High School, Velim were richer by Rs 5,000 and a trophy while Infant Jesus High School, Colva received Rs 3,000.
Rev Fr Joseph John Fernandes, assistant priest of Our Lady of Health Church, Cuncolim was the chief guest and handed over the prizes in the presence of John Furtado, headmaster of Our Lady of Health High School and Ciano Fernandes, chairman of OLHESA. Earlier, Nixon Gomes, president of OLHESA, welcomed the chief guest while Nerraj Aguair compered the function.
