A 12-day skating coaching camp organized by Canacona Sports Academy (CSA) concluded recently.
Certificates of participation were awarded to the participants at the hands of Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar and All Goa Skating Association President Subhash Naik in the concluding function held at KTC Complex, Chaudi. The skating association announced that four state skating teams in the age groups of 10, 14, 18 and 21 will be formed.
Organized by CSA in association with Janasena, Canacona, Mumbai-based skating trainer Harish Chonkar conducted the camp, which was attended by over 85 children of different age group categories.
Speaking on the occasion, Naik said: "The association will soon conduct roll-ball skates matches at taluka level. We have appealed to the Sports Minister to include skating as a discipline in the State’s sports policy for students up to class 10."
A live demonstration of skating skills learnt during the camp was given by two students. KTC Director Sarvanand Bhagat, Jana Seva, Goa President Dhanraj Harmalkar, Canacona Patrakar Sangh Secretary Divakar Desai, Goa Horticulture Corporation Dy. Chairman Mahesh Naik were present on the dais and spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, parents present at the function interrupted to plead with the Sports Minister to build an indoor stadium with a swimming pool for their children.
