Aman Shetty progressed into the pre-quarter stage along with Andrew and Ashwin Narsinghani, while Goa’s Tejas Shevde and Anant Kochhar notched up impressive victories in their respective matches at the men’s singles event in the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2022 tennis championships being played at the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias courts, Miramar, and at Panjim Gymkhana.
The annual tennis tournament by Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Goa’s first tennis club, is being organised under the aegis of the Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA), with support from Gadre Group.
In round 3, Aman Shetty knocked out Kafil Kadvekar with a 6-3 victory. Andrew had to wait till the tie-breaker to taste success against Arshad Desai as he registered 7-6(4) win. In another Round 3 encounter, Ashwin cruised to a 6-2 win against Joseph Porthur.
Defending champion Praneeth V fired on all cylinders as he crushed Jassin Chattaram 6-0. Last year’s finalist and 4 times men’s single champion and one of Goa’s best young players Tejas Shevde was in great touch too, as he registered a 6-0 victory over Harkirat Singh.
Tanay Amonkar was at his best while recording a 6-0 win over Yash Lingudkar. Anant Kochhar also looked good as he brushed aside the challenge of Manoj Lohiya 6-1 in the second round.
Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles event, Suraj Bikkanewar and Praneeth V scored a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Arshad and Manoj Lohiya in Round 2. Aditya and Indraneel Pawar entered the second round with an easy 6-2 win against Gary Steel-Nandy.
Some of the other men’s singles second round results saw Goa’s Sameer Kakodkar beat Jeetu Melwani 6-1, Veer Kotwal beat Sharad Mishra 6-0, Balachandra beat Pranab Mehrishi 6-3, Rajat Parmar beat Kishtij 6-1.
