The Goan, Tarun Bharat in next round

The Goan and Tarun Bharat moved into the next round of the Late Vijay Gad memorial inter media cricket tournament, organised by Sports Journalists Association of Goa (SJAG) in colloboration with Goa Cricket Association, at SAG ground Campal, Panaji on Monday.

In the first match of the day, The Goan defeated Gomantak by six wickets. Batting first, Gomantak could only manage to post a below par score of 44 for eight in the allotted 10 overs as no batsman could post a double digit score. Diwakar Karekar (2-5) and Pawan Zantye (2-10) produced the best bowling figures for The Goan while Sidhesh Desai top-scored with 9 for Gomantak.

The Goan batsmen did not face much problems in securing the target as they knocked off the runs in just 7.1 overs with six wickets to spare. Durgesh Naik (17) and Anil Desai (14) led the chase while Altaf Shaikh managed to scalp 2-16 for Gomantak.

In second match of the day, Tarun Bharat beat Times of India by eight wickets. Times of India posted 65 for 5 batting first with Girish Manjrekar top-scoring with 34. In reply, Tarun Bharat cantered to the target in 8.1 overs as Anil Bandiwadekar scored an unbeaten knock of 42.
