United Club of Utorda lost 1-3 against Verna Sports Club in the on-going GFA U-14 League at Cansaulim grounds on Friday.
Both teams were cagey at the start and took time to ascertain each other’s strength and spot weakness. The Utorda side managed to create many chances through Madan Pomburpekar and Anish Gadar but their threats were timely cleared by the rival keeper. The Utorda team which houses the GFDC Academy trainees found it hard to get into the rhythm against their Verna counterparts.
In the 26th minute, Bhuvan Parwar missed a penalty for the GFDC lads. The score stayed 0-1 at half-time.
Crossing over, the match started off at a fiery pace with either sides trying hard to make an impact but the ball was mostly confined to the midfield. Finding themselves down by two goals, desperate Utorda outfit tried to go into the attack but failed to capitalize on their chances.
In the 48th minute, Anish Gadar had his chance to score but failed to beat the Verna goalkeeper from close range. Two minutes later Madan managed to pull one goal back to bring the scoreline to 1-2. United Club of Utorda lads attacked till the last minute but failed to score.
