UC Verna enter London Trophy semifinals

United Club of Verna secured a dramatic 9-8 tiebreaker win over hosts Goa Velha Sports Club after a 2-2 draw in regulation time to book their place in the semifinals of the 18th London Trophy Inter-Village Football Tournament.
Aglon Abranches gave Verna an early lead in the 5th minute, while Prasil Kankonkar equalised for Goa Velha in the 18th to make it 1-1 at half-time. Roydon Rego restored Verna’s lead in the 44th minute, but Francis Afonso converted a penalty in the 51st minute to level the scores again.
With the match tied at 2-2, Verna prevailed in the tiebreaker, converting nine of their attempts. Clifton Rebello was named Man of the Match.
SJD Areal rally to beat Shiroda YC in opener
MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club came from behind to defeat Shiroda Youth Club 3-2 in the inaugural match of the 15th Wilred Leisure Football Tournament at Dysa ground, Curtorim.
Shiroda took an early lead through Flint Dias in the 5th minute, but Steven Gomes equalised in the 16th. Aran Endro and Aryan Carvalho added goals in the second half before Placito Cruz pulled one back late for Shiroda.
Viswas Gurav presented the Man of the Match award.
Vasco appoint D’Souza as assistant coach
MARGAO: Vasco Sports Club has appointed former Dena Bank Mumbai footballer Raimundo D’Souza as assistant coach of its senior team on a one-year deal. D’Souza, who has played for clubs including Churchill Brothers FC and Sarzora Sports Club, takes up the role after ending his playing career. He was previously associated with the GFDC Cuncolim centre as head coach.
Diamond Harbour beat FC Goa in RFDL clash
MARGAO: A brace by Thangalasoun Gangte guided Diamond Harbour FC to a 3-1 win over FC Goa in the Reliance Foundation Development League at SSA Stadium, Shillong. Sahil Harijan opened the scoring in the 34th minute, while FC Goa equalised through Shawn Fernandes in the 65th. Gangte struck in the 78th minute and again in stoppage time (90+1) to seal the victory.
Goa University B win Rosary College staff tourney
MARGAO: Goa University B defeated Don Bosco College, Panjim 3-0 in the final to win the 5th Inter-Staff Football Tournament organised by Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim. Gaurav Gosavi scored once, while Sameer Saunthodkar netted twice. Saunthodkar was named Man of the Match, while Ryan Pereira was adjudged Player of the Tournament. The event saw participation from eight teams and aimed at promoting camaraderie and fitness among staff members.
