Goan Football Club played their hearts out to register a solitary goal win over Goa Velha Sports Club in the GFA Vedanta Women’s League, organised by GFA at Duler grounds, here on Sunday.
Goan FC registered their second win and have six points, while Goa Velha are yet to open their account. The Goan FC eves drew the blood in the very 6th minute of the match when Velanie Fernandes, collecting a pass from Alisha Tavares, intelligently chipped the ball over the Goa Velha keeper Rhea Noronha, 1-0.
In the 10th minute, Goa Velha’s Amisha Endro snatched the ball from Goan FC defender Rhea Pires and latched the ball at the goal which however missed the target narrowly. The Goan FC outfit would have extended their lead in the 15th minute, where Joyvi Fernandes got hold of a pass from Jeromina Colaco and then drilled a shot at the goal but it was superbly saved by Goa Velha keeper Rhea Noronha.
Goa Velha’s striker Mabel Mascarenhas had to leave the field and replaced by Tercy Pinto due to an injury at half hour break. On resumption of play, the Goan FC eves time and again attacked the rival citadel but their strikers failed to get past the last line of Goa Velha defence and keeper Rhea.
In the 47th minute, an intelligent free kick by Velanie Fernandes saw Alisha Tavares a bit late to beat the onrushing Goa Velha keeper Rhea Noronha. In the last ten minutes of the match, keeper Rhea was at her very best as she made some smart saves to deny Alisha and Vailanka D’Souza.
Player of the match award was rightly awarded to Goan FC’s Vailanka D’Souza.
