MARGAO
After four defeats on the trot, Compassion FC finally registered their first win against debutants Young Boys of Tonca (YBT) with a 3-0 result in the GFA Vedanta Women’s league at Dramapur ground on Saturday.
The winners led 1-0 at the break through an early Shaubdelle Gomes strike. In the second half, Compassion scored two more goals through Fatima Braganza and Syloney Fernandes to secure full points.
Compassion took charge right from the start and went ahead in the 21st minute when Shaubdelle found the net. At the other end, YBT slowly organized themselves, increasing the pace of their game but lacked creativity in the final third.
Compassion continued to attack in the second half and doubled the lead in the 63rd minute when Fatima Braganza beat the rival goalkeeper Shaikheni Devi Thingbaijam with a neat finish. Trailing 0-2, Lawrence Monteiro’s charges fought hard to rally back but the goal eluded them.
Meanwhile, Compassion looked dangerous on the counter with their forwards missing chances to inflate their advantage. However, in the end it didn’t matter as substitute Syloney Fernandes fired the third goal in the 83rd minute to seal Compassion’s first points in five matches.
Arnaldo Costa, vice chairman of GFA Women’s Football Committee, gave away the Player of the Match award to Fatima Braganza.
