Goa’s Katya and Dayne Coelho, the gold medallists in IQ Foil Men’s and Women’s category of Yachting competition in the recently-concluded 37th National Games, were felicitated by Calangute police for their superlative achievement.

The Coelho siblings, who are Calangute residents, were felicitated by DySP Vishwesh Karpe, Calangute PI Paresh Naik and other police officials.

“Representing our state is always a moment of pride and honour, as well as when we represent the country at the international level. Since Goa was hosting the 37th National Games, we had to win the gold medal because it was our home ground, and that was the aim right from the start,” Katya said.

Stating that Windsurfing is one of the best sports he has played, Dwayne said that winning the gold medal in Goa is a unique experience in his career.

“Personally, I have never experienced anything like this in our home state. We have trained for the past 10 years at Dona Paula (where the discipline was held). I think no one knows the conditions better than we do. But it was still very challenging for us. We had to work hard. We were up against tough competitors,” he said.
