Chandor Club emerged victorious in a dramatic penalty shootout, defeating United Club of Verna 6-5 in a captivating match of the 17th London Trophy Inter Village Football Tournament 2025, organized by Goa Velha Sports Club on Tuesday.
The match began with a bang, as Alreach Peixoto put Chandor Club ahead in the 3rd minute. United Club of Verna responded swiftly, with prolific striker Beneston Barretto leveling the score in the 10th minute. Before halftime, Stephen Satardekar gave Verna the lead, lobbing the ball past Chandor's goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues in the 33rd minute, leaving Verna leading 2-1 at the break.
Chandor Club fought back in the second half. Midfielder Moises D'Sa equalized with a well-executed free-kick in the 43rd minute, beating Verna's Royal Moniz. With the score tied 2-2 at full time, the match proceeded to a tense penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Chandor Club converted their penalties through Alreach Peixoto, Moises D'Sa, Akram Yadwad, and Mark Fernandes. However Louie Noronha missed his attempt. United Club of Verna scored through Clifton Rebello, Desmon Gama and Jesloy Moniz. Royden Rego missed his attempt, and Beneston Barretto's shot was saved by Chandor's goalkeeper, Oswin Rodrigues.
The match saw Sildon Peixoto and Akram Yadwad of Chandor Club receive cautions from referee Milagres Fernandes. Moises D'Sa of Chandor Club was named Man of the Match, receiving the award from Joy Gonsalves, a player and member of Goa Velha Sports Club.
