Panchayats Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on Monday said Chicalim area is poised to be a centre of excellence in sports with a new world-class cricket ground, futsal ground, cricket pitch and swimming pool.
Godinho was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the squash court complex at the SAG ground in Chicalim in the presence of Sports Minister Govind Gaude, Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav, Sancoale ZP Anita Thorat, Goa Association of Squash President Pankaj Joshi and others.
"We have inaugurated four squash courts here today and there will also be a tournament that will begin here from today.
“We have developed a world-class cricket ground here under the Sports Authority of Goa and this will be inaugurated in two months. This cricket ground will be one of the best grounds in the state and we have spent a lot of money here.
“We are also hosting the National Games and this shows how much importance we give to sports and the sportswomen and sportsmen will have a golden opportunity to rise to higher levels and we will see many of Goan players competing and winning laurels for the state," said Godinho. "Besides this, in the jogger’s park, we have a plot handed over to us by the Communidade where we will have a futsal ground and cricket turfs.”
Godinho said Dabolim does not have a swimming pool and Gaude has assured one in the near future. “The minister has said since we have enough land, he will give us the Futsal ground, cricket turf and also a swimming pool, which is a very welcome decision and will be a reality within two years.”
“With the new SAG world-class cricket ground and the sports facilities, including a swimming pool and Futsal ground in the Jogger’s park area, Chicalim will become a sports arena and a centre of excellence in sports," said Godinho.
