Cumborda SC storm into semifinals

Cumborda SC booked their place in the semifinals of the 9-a-side Curtorim Interward Football Tournament 2026 after defeating Bhatti United 6-3 via a tie-breaker at St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim. The tournament is being organised by Sporting Club Virabhat.

The quarterfinal clash was an exciting affair, with Cumborda SC taking the lead in the 10th minute through Mackson Fernandes, who finished off a fine pass from Rio Fernandes.

Bhatti United fought back and restored parity in the 22nd minute when Tony Dias found the back of the net, leaving the score tied at 1-1 at halftime.

Bhatti took the lead in the 35th minute of the second half through Mevan Dias, making it 2-1. However, Cumborda responded strongly, with Marcus Fernandes scoring the equaliser in the 55th minute to level the score at 2-2 and force the match into a tie-breaker.

In the shootout, Cumborda SC held their nerve to secure a convincing 4-1 victory. Marcus Fernandes, Mackwil, Mackson Fernandes and Melvin successfully converted their spot-kicks for the winners, while Jovial was the lone scorer for Bhatti United.

Cumborda SC will now face Sporting Club Virabhat in the semifinal on June 8.

Perry Dias of Bhatti United was adjudged Man of the Match. The award was presented by Francisco Castanha, a member of Sporting Club Virabhat.
