Much was expected of Delton Colaco when he began his stint at FC Goa. With the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) and the GFA President’s Super League happening simultaneously, the youngster has lately been getting plenty of playing time.
His rich vein of form, which helped him bag two goals in the last two GFA President’s Super League matches, has lately helped him justify the expectations on him. While the first of those strikes proved to be the winner against Dempo SC, the second showcased his individual brilliance perfectly and earned the Gaurs a point against Sesa FA.
“I think I did well in both games,” Colaco said. “I’m happy to have contributed to my team’s cause with the goals, and the aim is definitely to continue striving hard and helping them win.
“The goals make me happy, because I had only scored once before in the ongoing season. I missed some good chances since then, and now I’m glad that I’ve regained my form,” he added.
In the RFDL, Delton has managed to only make appearances off the bench. The pacy forward is not disappointed, though. “We have a very good squad and every player is equally brilliant. It is up to me to impress the coach (Deggie Cardozo) and earn my place in the playing XI. I’m definitely working on it and I’m confident that I’ll get more chances going forward,” he explained.
FC Goa have always been in the good books as far as youth development is concerned. As many as 25 players who graduated from their Dev Team are currently impressing in the ISL and I-League, and Colaco hopes that he will soon join the list that already comprises illustrious names like Liston Colaco, Mohammad Yasir, Mohammad Nawaz and Vincy Barretto.
“Last season, I got my first shot at the senior team in the Durand Cup. Although I did not get to play much, the atmosphere there was an immense learning experience. That we secured the trophy adds to that, as it gave me a wonderful idea of how it means to win big laurels.
“And now, all my focus is on being back with the senior team. The GFA President’s Super League and the RF Development League has presented me with plenty of opportunities to do so, and I fully intend to utilise them,” he concluded.
