Dhargal right place for cricket stadium: Vipul Phadke

Dhargal right place for cricket stadium: Vipul Phadke

PANAJI

Citing examples like Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium, which stands on leased land, Goa Cricket Association (GCA) President Vipul Phadke asserted that Dhargal is the most suitable location for the proposed cricket stadium in the state. He further stated that the GCA general body has already approved the site.

Confident ahead of the association’s elections, Phadke claimed that the panel led by Chetan Desai is poised for victory, with the backing of nearly 80 percent of affiliated clubs.

Vipul Phadke held a press conference in Panaji. The candidates for the president’s post ” Mahesh Desai, Paresh Phadte, Tulshidas Shetye ” and other panel members were present at the press conference.

There was a proposal to develop a sports city at Dhargal. The land for the sports city was allotted during the tenure of former Chief Minister, the late Manohar Parrikar. The resolution to build a stadium at Dhargal has been approved by the GCA general body. The formalities for constructing the cricket stadium are currently underway. Phadke said, “Once our panel is elected, the stadium construction work will gain momentum.”

A cricket ground will also be developed on the land at Maulinguem, and that land will be properly utilized. However, he emphasized that the land at Dhargal is more suitable for the stadium than Maulinguem.

Phadke questioned, “Rohan Gauns Dessai was the secretary in the current committee. Then why was the stadium work not progressed under their tenure?”

“Mahesh Desai is a former Ranji player. Paresh Phadte, Tulshidas Shetye, Anant Naik, Syed Majid, and Mahesh Behki have all contributed significantly to cricket. With the support of the clubs, the victory of the panel is assured,” Phadke added, expressing confidence that the reform panel will win overwhelmingly in today’s elections.
