FC Goa blank Sesa FA in RFDL campaign opener

PANAJI
A goal each by Lesly Rebello and Salgeo Dias in either half of the match helped the FC Goa Developmental Team beat Sesa Football Academy 2-0 in their opening match of the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) - Goa Zone on Thursday.

Having played a 2nd Division League game against Dempo SC just a day earlier, the young Gaurs had to play with a completely different lineup in the clash at the Monte de Guirim football ground. First-team stars Hrithik Tiwari, Lesly Rebello, and Lalremruata HP led the side that started the game on a commanding note with many chances.

Rebello handed the Boys in Orange a much-deserved breakthrough when he found the back of the net in the 34th minute. An attempt by a Sesa player to clear Malsawmtluanga’s cross into the box resulted in the 22-year-old getting a free header at the far post, which he promptly nodded in.

Following the change of ends, the Gaurs switched their formation to a four-at-the-back, putting more emphasis on defence in a bid to preserve their lead. The introduction of youngster Saish Gaunkar added flair to their attack as well. Saish assisted Salgeo’s goal in the 60th minute as he picked up a loose ball and advanced to the left of the goal before firing a cross for his teammate to head in.
